Installing Apache on Win98SE
I am a total newb to apache and am looking for a simple step by step proccess on how to install apache 2.2 on my win 98 machine. I know very little of linux and don't even know where to find drivers for the hardware so i'd like to stick with 98.
I know i have to use a command prompt to use it but i don't know any specifics.
On a side note i have successfully done this on an xp machine i just need help with the specifics of win98

From the documentation:
Running Apache on Windows 9x is not thoroughly tested, and it is never recommended on production systems.

If you've got an old enough machine that you're running win98 on it, I'd strongly recommend just installing Linux (like, an "easy" distro such as ubuntu which pretty much works out of the box) and putting Apache on that unless you have really good reason for keeping windows on there.
It's going to run better on old hardware and be more stable. Plus, per beerbajay's note, it's recommended against installing on win9x.

Best answer: If you really want to use Windows 98 and are going to be doing things with PHP, MySQL, perl, etc apache friends puts out a nice bundle that includes everything you are going to need plus a nice little interface for starting and stopping things. XAMPP for Windows and it supports Win98.

Response by poster: @Chrisroberts: thanks your solution seems to solve my problem but it also feels like i'm biting off more than i can chew with php and mysql. Any apache stand alone walkthroughs?

However, installing a cutting edge apache on an old, extremely vulnerable and unsupported operating system seems like a bad idea.
