Mac G4 restarts on its own

I have a Mac G4 with a similar problem to some recent questions - it restarts when I try to shut it down. (more inside)

Even when I set it to shut down at a certain time, instead of shutting down it will restart... this problem is difficult to fix by cleaning it because I can't turn it off... I've just been leaving it on the last week or so. Any ideas?

Response by poster: Running OS 9, by the way. Should I just unplug it and clean it? Does that really have an effect on these kind of things? I'm not a real computer hardware person so talk down to me :) a little, please.

A couple of questions to get you started: What operating system? What third-party software or Preference Panels have you installed? Do you have it set to start up at a certain time? Is "Restart automatically after a power failure" checked off in the Energy Saver preferences? Have you asked in the Apple support forums?

Do you have a non-Apple monitor attached to it? Apparently, some monitors can cause restarts.
