MedicalSupplyFilter: Those blue absorbent thingys?
Where can I find those large blue-backed protective pads locally (i.e. not at a special medical supply place, but at a CVS or some such)?

Amazon?
I found these by googling for "absorbent underpads" which is what they call them where I work. Seemed to return a bunch of options, without knowing where you can't say for sure if there's a local store. I'd search for a medical supply company though.

Sorry, didn't see your "not at a special medical supply place." CVS does actually have them.

you can get them at a CVS generally; at least i feel like I've seen them there before. Have seen them at wal-mart on occasion (sometimes in dog isle--for training, etc)

I recently went on the hunt for a gait belt, which is another example of non-technical medical supplies. I learned that sometimes different Walgreens stores sell different inventory, and there was one Walgreens in the area that had a lot of medical supplies compared to other Walgreens stores nearby. So even if you don't see chucks at your local CVS store, it might be worth it to call a few other CVS or Walgreens outlets to see if they have them. Even if they don't carry them in stock they might be able to order them for you.

They also have them at pet stores, although they rename them to Puppy Pads, and charge twice as much.
I, as an owner of a chihuahua that pees inside during the winter, use those underpads all the time. I still am on the lookout for a wholesale place that allows me to buy a whole box, since those pads packaged by 20 that I buy at the local pharmacy are 25 cent each. And that little critter pees more that you'd expect of a dog his size.

You can get them at Petsmart/Petco. Some of them claim to be treated with something to make them more attractive for puppies to pee on, but my dogs don't seem to think so. Usually the budget brands don't make those claims.

The puppy pads are actually cheaper than the baby-changing pads (and are the exact same thing.) Weird how a single product can have so many branding "types."

If you aren't looking for undergarment protection, but large wound protection, go to walgreens and ask for a surgical abdominal pad.
