Tell me where to go.

I have some AirTrans passes which will be expiring soon (end of July). Where should I go?

I'd like to make it a trip with a purpose; like a trade show, or something that interests me.

My interests? Comic books, web programming (javascript, Flash, or PHP), web design, graphic design, Macs, computer graphics, self-publishimg, zines, etc.

Any suggestions are welcome. Must be on AirTrans route (not their partners) and be before July 31 (which means I can't use it for Siggraph).

Thanks in advance.

There's a couple PodCamp UnConferences in the right timeframe.

Comic-Con in San Diego is July 25-29, AirTran flies there, and San Diego is a nice enough destination in and of itself that if you get burned out on comics, you've got the rest of southern California and even a bit of Mexico right there.

It won't be scorching hot, either - San Diego's average daily high in July, according to NOAA, is an extremely pleasant 75.8 degrees.

Best answer: Comic-Con link.

I've never been to Comic-Con, but my brother goes every year and sometimes it's a pain to get a good hotel room if he doesn't do it way early - factor that in if you decide on there.

Response by poster: I forgot about the comic con. It WOULD be cool to go there, but accommodations may be tricky. Any other suggestions?

Accomdations might be tricky IF you didn't book in advance, or if you tried to stay, say, across the street from the convention hall, but San Diego is a pretty big place, so I'm sure you could find something. If you rented a car or found a place near the trolley, you'd have the whole area at your disposal, and it's really not that big.
