Dancing on the west side of LA

Good places to go dancing in LA on the west side?
Just moved to town from NYC and am looking for good places to go dancing with my friends. I know most dance places are in Hollywood or Silverlake, but I was hoping for something a little closer to Venice/Santa Monica/Culver City.
We're all in our mid to late 20's and aren't looking for a crazy scene (like Area, yuck) but more along the lines of a bar with a dance floor that won't disappoint, or a club where people are more into the music and dancing for fun than in rubbing their images up on each other. The music can be cheesy 80's or hip hip or electronica or rock, whatever it is as long as it's dance-able and as long as the place is pretty sure thing to be hopping even on a weeknight.
Your suggestions are much appreciated!

Incidentally, my friends and I, also in our mid to late 20s, also do this sort of thing with the same kinds of tastes. Send me some email - I'm from Boston and east-coast people should stick together!

Zanzibar (Santa Monica). Very cool (for the westside, haha)
Circle Bar = godawful meat market. Embarassing.

You might want to try the gas lite on wilshire, and the bar-whose-name-I-do-not-know a bit west of it.
I am walking distance from both and one bored evening wandered by both. The bar-whose-name-I-do-not-know has a weekly 80s thing on friday - and the music until 1 or so seems to be regularly provided by a cover band. It was at least mildly amusing. The gas lite also seems to meet your description, as it's just a bar with a dance floor.
I've only been to each once and can't much speak for the 'scene' they represent - I'm much more inclined to go out to underground techno events.
