Effective Speedreading Self-Study Programs?

What is an effective self-study program (software / online / book / other) for speed reading?

I read a lot, and I am a strong and thorough reader, but I read much slower than I would like. My wife reads VERY fast (with high comprehension) and I'd like to keep up. My main problems:

-I "hear" the words in my head -- meaning my reading is essentially slowed down to "narrator" speed, one-word-at-a-time
-I find myself going back and re-reading sentences and paragraphs. Sometimes because I missed them the first time.

I've read the MetaFilter questions about speedreading and most of the answers simply say "don't do that."

Can anyone recommend an actual speedreading self-study course or program (software, book, online, other) that is proven to be effective, especially for combating my above mentioned "symptoms?" Personal experiences / anecdotes would be excellent.
