5k in NYC this summer?

I am looking to find a walk/run 5k I can enter this summer in NYC.

As motivation for getting in running shape, I'd like to enter a 5k either in the last few weeks of July or sometime in August, anywhere in New York City. I'm not a competitive runner (yet!) and so am looking for a good first time race to join. I can't seem to find anything using Google. Any ideas?

There are a few listed here - one 5k in June and two in September. Follow the links to the websites for more race info. I don't think you're going to find too many NYC races held in the dog days of July and August though. Check with your local Y, too.

Also, this is a great little site and tool, searchable by state and month. Good luck.

There is a great 5K at the end of July at Shea Stadium--the New York Mets Run to Home Plate.

Be sure to bookmark the New York Road Runner's Web site. They run races almost every weekend, many in Central Park.

Here's their calendar for July.

I'd also check the New York RRCA calendar...but you might have to wait until June to see a lot of postings for July. Most smaller races send out their information a month in advance.

USATF has a searchable calendar.

For more options, all the little towns up the CT coast have 5ks, and are easily accessibly by train. They are usually flat as a board, and usually have nice sea views.

Also try Rockland Road Runners and Westchester Road Runners.
