What program will let you import registry and email information from one hard disk to another, using windows XP pro? The built in version won't let me, because both disks are in one machine.

The Files & Settings / Migration Wizard (system32\usmt\migwiz.exe) lets you do it. While it does allow you to migrate from one machine on the network to another, it will also let you just create a migration package on disk... that's what I recall doing when I moved over from my old machine to this one. I burned the file onto a CD. It'll do a lot more than just the registry and email, if you let it.

Does anybody know if a similar utility exists for Windows 2000?

My 2k box has attracted much crap over the last 2 years in the form of development tools and other effluvia I no longer use. To speed things up, I'm preparing to reformat my hard disk and either reinstall 2k or install XP new. I'm sure that there is some software on my PC that I no longer have disks or registration codes for. Is there any way to back up registry settings in win2k and restore them selectively by app to either 2k or XP?

Won't exporting, swapping the drives, and importing work?
