Where can I find high-quality desktop wallpaper-suitable images of modern art? I'm mostly thinking of work from the last decade, but even the last 50 years would be good. Also: free would be nice.

Well, when I Googled "van gogh" and clicked on Images, I got lots and lots of good pics for a screensaver. If you have names of the artists you like, that should fit the bill.

Flickr is often a good start for wallpaperable images. Some photographers only show "all sizes" to logged in users, so you might want to create a free account if you haven't already got one. (copyright issues aside of course)

If you are in school (or know people who are), try logging into the art history department's website. At my school their slide collection is now all-digital, so any slides that have been made for art history lectures by professors are also availible as a high res download to any students who want them.

The artchive has links to images of art on the web. It's organized by artist. I think it used to be better (less ads and stuff). You can also try the artcyclopedia.
