clomipramine

I have been prescribed clomipramine for OCD/depression. Does anyone have any experience with this medication for treating these conditions?

I've taken Celexa and Lexapro in the past, but clomipramine is a different molecule altogether. Any insights would be appreciated.

The Wikipedia article about it looks pretty good.

Side effects you'll probably suffer to at least some extent: dry mouth, constipation, weight gain, vivid dreams, and sexual disfunction if you're a man.

Clomipramine is part of an older class of antidepressants (TCAs) that are supposed to leave you drowsier/more lethargic than the newer kinds do (SSRIs and SNRIs). But since you tried two SSRIs and they didn't work, it sounds like your doctor is looking for something else. Out of the TCAs, clomipramine is what is most commonly prescribed for treating OCD...so hopefully, this one will finally work for you.

Does this help?

TCA is an acronym for tricyclic antidepressant, if that assists your Googling. Other, more commonly used medicines in the class include Elavil (amitriptyline) and Pamelor (nortriptyline). I've only prescribed clomipramine a couple times, and that for sleep disorders; for certain folks it has a wonderful way of regularizing a disordered sleep cycle.

Made me really drowsy til I started cutting the pills in half. I would take one in the morning at 8 and it took til noon for it the drowsiness to wear off.
