Whats the best way for a mere mortal (ie: non-owner) to organise a visit the Ferrari Factory in Maranello, Italy?
Response by poster: Thats what ive heard as well. (Well, owners and suppliers). Im wondering if anyone knows of a way around this.
I own a Matchbox Ferrari. Does that count?

I visited the factory back in 1998 when I was enrolled at Domus Academy. From my experience design schools go too.
The best part is when they take the cars out for a test and shakedown... Imagine 8 cars screaming out of the factory gate at full throttle!

Become friendly with your local Ferrari dealer. Visits are by invitation only.

The advice in this thread (hardly concrete fact, but these guys are a fairly knowledgeable and well traveled bunch) supports Ferrari328's claim that you might be able to snag a tour by arranging it through your local Ferrari dealer.
Good luck, and if you do get in, take lots of pictures!

An American- driving a rented Punto- could not get in.
They have a nice museum across the street, though. I think it was 15 Euro to get in.

You need to own a Ferrari or have a friend that owns a Ferrari bring you along as a guest. A dealership has to set up the tour for you and they need a VIN and proof of ownership to do so. My dad is a Ferrari owner and he has been to the factory several times. I was fortunate enough to go with him a few years ago.
