.name transfer without auth code

I two .name domains that I very much want to transfer away from registerfly. Every registrar I've tried wants an authorization code to do the transfer.

Registerfly maintains that I don't need an authorization code to do a transfer for a .name domain. From what I can tell registerfly might actually be correct. Even if registerfly is wrong I still won't be able to get an authorization code from them. Is there a registrar out there that will do a .name domain transfer without an authorization code?

You can actually get your authorization code from Registerfly, from their domain management panel. A couple of months ago, I transferred away from them, and here's what I did. I'm not sure if it still works, but it might.

a) Sent in a support ticket. A response came a few days later, with my auth code.

b) While waiting on the support ticket, I got my auth code through the domain management panel. First, I disabled ProtectFly (whois protection), and then unlocked the domain for transferring purposes. You can do both of these from the control panel. And for the auth code itself... go to "Manage Domains", choose the domain you want to transfer, then "Edit contact whois info". The auth code should be at the bottom of the edit screen.

There's a lot of customer dissatisfaction going on about Registerfly at the moment - it might be a good idea to get out before it gets bad, according to registerflies.com.

Do you know if they are Registerfly domains, or are they eNom's domains. If they are eNom's, go through them, as I've heard they've been helpful through this. If they are registerfly's, you're hosed. You can keep trying though.

Response by poster: The domain management panel method works for .com domains but not .name domains.

How can you tell they are correct about not needing an auth code? Auth codes are standard in transferring domains and if all the other registrars you are attempting to transfer to insist on one that should tell you something.

I would escalate your ticket or whatever the process is for speaking to someone besides the frontline support people.

As you know, things aren't looking really good for registerfly, and control of the company has changed back to the original CEO within the last day. Have you been to the registerflies customer-based site yet? That seems to be the go-to place for info.

Unfortunately for me, I have a domain I can't move away, and still get the locked message, even though their control panel says it isn't. It's not a domain I have used yet, however, so I'll just sit tight for a while longer and see how everything shakes out.
