Pretty sure it wasn't Pilgrim's Progress ...

Help me find yet another vaguely remembered horror movie from the 70s.

This was back in the day when our local NBC affiliate would show movies every afternoon at 3, and it seemed to this then-pre-teenage kid that they were scary more often than not.

Anyway, one that has stuck with me for some reason involved a woman who was having visions of being pursued/stalked by people in pilgrim outfits. I seem to think it took place somewhere in the country, but maybe not. The one scene I recall had her on the ground in a field, and they were pressing a board down on her (or something like that).

This movie contributed to a lifelong distrust of people in pilgrim costumes, which, as you might imagine, is an impediment to succeeding in today's workforce. Can you please help me find this movie so I can watch it and exorcise my brown-hat-wearing demons?

For what it's worth - I too, remember that scene and being creeped out by it. I'm trying hard to recall some other plot details.

It might be either The Conqueror Worm (a.k.a. The Witchfinder General), or The Blood on Satan's Claw, both of which feature terror and pilgrim-y costumes.

Was it The Devil's Rain?

Response by poster: Hmmm ... don't believe it was any of those. I may be wrong about this, but I feel like it was set in the present day (i.e. 1970s). And this woman moved into this community, maybe inherited some land, something ... I dunno ...

Although the Devil's Rain does sound like a lot of fun on its own merits!

This seems kind of disturbing ;) Two Thousand Maniacs!

"The citizens of the southern town Pleasant Valley lure six Yankee tourists into town where they are to be the reluctant guests for the centennial celebration of the day a band of renegade Union troops decimated the town. The town then participates in events, a different event for each of the tourists, in which the tourist is dispatched. One couple begins to suspect something and seeks a way to escape."

They sell a DVD-R version here (NSFW). I don't know how legit they are but I've just spent the last half hour browsing their inventory. Quite a few gems there.

I did a froogle search on "Crowhaven Farm". There are quite a few copies in DVD format for sale.

Yeah -- but they're all bootlegs, with so-so quality. Buyer beware.
