1940s Song ID needed

A coworker of mine is trying to remember/identify a pop song from the 1940s, but all she has is some lyrics.

This is probably from the middle of the song:

I wonder, I wonder, can't help it if I wonder
No matter which side of the pillow I'm sleeping on
Thoughts keep going (rolling?) through my mind
Until the dawn
And after that the daydreams linger on
I wonder, I wonder, etc.

I have googled these lyrics but come up empty, so it's possible they're not quite right. But does this ring a bell with anybody?

Barry and the Tamerlanes' I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight?

Google returns a few variation of lyrics, and the group is from the 60's, but maybe that'll help track down an earlier version.

This is a stumper. I listen to a lot of music from this era and don't recall having heard anything like this (though, to be honest, that doesn't mean much -- I'm only going to hear the big songs now 60 years on). The closest I can come is "Head on My Pillow" from Frank Sinatra.

Best answer: It appears Eddy Howard has a song called "I Wonder, I Wonder, I Wonder," but I haven't found the lyrics yet...

Response by poster: staggernation got it -- we found a sample on Amazon and played it, and coworker says that's it! Thanks!
