Can't stop the signal

How can I make my stereo receiver stop accidentally picking up AM signals?
I recently purchased a monster cable to connect my iMac to a stereo receiver. I plugged the cable into the "audio in" cd jack and the sound comes through fine, except for one problem... the receiver is also picking up an AM radio station that plays in the background.
There is no antenna hooked up to the receiver, and if you set it to "Radio" nothing comes through at all. I have tried every combination of plugs and jacks, but I can't seem to make it go away.
So what gives? And how can I make it stop? I have very limited knowledge about these things, so my apologies if there is an obvious answer.
Thanks!

Ground something. At least one of these devices should have an earth pin on the power supply.

Could well be the iMac itself picking up the interference, rather than the cable to the receiver. It might be worth using a decent external USB sound card instead of the inbuilt stuff.
