Where to go in Stockholm for New Year's Eve?

My wife and I will arrive in Stockholm on New Year's Eve, and since we don't have any friends or family in the city we're at a loss over where to go. I'm a student and she's a medical resident so the posh venues that reveal themselves on Google are out of the question. Where should a young-ish couple go in Stockholm to celebrate the New Year?

I was there in August and September. Loads of bars, but be prepared to pay a lot for drinks. The govt. controls the alcohol prices, so there are no bargains. Check out The Local, an English newspaper.

Best answer: I would go to Södermalmstorg for mignight. The subway stop is Slussen. Götgatan is a major street through that part of town (Södermalm) and has nice bars and restuarants. It is one of the more affordable areas for nightspots in Stockholm. If there are fireworks, you'll have a view of them over the water and Gamla stan. As you'll see on the map, you could also just go watch firworks on the water in Gamla stan.

I found the following stuff for New Years:

Nyårskonsert, Beethoven symf 9, 31/12 16:00
Storkyrkan (The Great Church), Gamla Stan

You could just stand around outside the church and listen. It is a lovely area.

Nyårsfirande på Skansen 31/12 23:30
New Year's celebration at Skansen.

If there are fireworks, I'd expect them to be from a barge off Kastellholmen (the island off Skeppsholmen).

It's hard to say anything without knowing what you're like and what you're after. Different crowds go to different kinds of party. I don't live in Stockholm, and only go clubbing there a couple of times a year. That said, if I were to go out there at new years, I'd go to Debaser, which is a pop/rock club at Slussen. They open to the public at 11 PM, and you should expect a long queue, as to any good venue.
