I'm going to Mexico, and I want a new Ipod!

Would I be able to purchase an 80 Gig Ipod more cheaply in Mexico City than in the US?
No direct knowledge myself, however this guy was asking folks who were planning to visit Mexico City to bring him a computer as the US price was cheaper.
If Mexico City is anything like London then you're almost always better off purchasing in the US - at least for Apple hw. Not sure if this is true in general, as I don't really use anything other than Macs.
Best of luck!

I think, of all people, someone named "Senor Patalones" would know whether or not you can get an iPod cheaper in Mexico City :P

Mexico has a 15% VAT-like IVA tax too. While it's included in the sale price, Apple usually bumps their prices to compensate.

No. They are way more expensive here in Mexico.
I think the stores have to pay import taxes, so most electronic products are more expensive than in the US.
The exception might be Cancun, where the IVA tax is 10%, not 15%, but I'm sure the import taxes and expensive tourist stores will bump the price even higher.
I really need a new computer, but I'll wait until I go to the US to buy my MacBook Pro. I think I'll save about $300.

Also, I haven't seen the 80GB iPods in stores. A 60GB video iPod (which is an old model) is $442 in one store. Ouch.

The exchange rate was better in July. You missed the boat on that.

I used to work room service in a swank hotel in Miami. Guests would routinely come to visit from central and south america and absolutely fill their rooms with electronic gadgets that they'd buy in the US and either ship back or carry back home with them. Literally piles of boxes. It must be a lot cheaper here.
