"Highway Signs: Terror on the Road." Have you seen this book?
It's by someone named Ed Dore, supposedly, and is mentioned, without full citation, in "Wayfinding: Designing and Implementing Graphic Navigational Systems" by Craig M. Berger (Hove, UK: RotoVision, 2005). No record in Library of Congress, Worldcat, Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk, Google Books, the British Library, COPAC, or pretty much anywhere. (Doesn't turn up as an article in major databases either.)
If the hive mind can't help, I guess I'll contact RotoVision, but since AskMe usually = instant gratification, I figured I'd try here first.

It's not a book but from a journal: Journal of Graphic Design, The American Institute of Graphic Arts, Vol. 6, No. 2, 1988. And it's called Highway Signage: Terrors of the Road. Source: http://www.usd.edu/~schieber/materials/Hawkins99b.pdf
