Can you recommend any good books for toddlers/young readers in which the protagonists are twins? Bonus points for stories where the protagonists are non-identical twins

Best answer: There are some good recommendations on this site. I have personally used Twin to Twin and my kids, fraternal twins, seem to enjoy it a lot.

There's a cute recent picture book, "Hello Twins!"--the twins are a boy and a girl.

Topsy and Tim? Bit old-school, but I used to like them. I'm pretty sure they were twins.

For when they're a bit older, Sweet Valley High, and all of the spin-offs- Sweet Valley Kids (Elizabeth and Jessica in second grade), Sweet Valley Junior High (eighth grade), Sweet Valley Senior Year (twelfth grade), and Sweet Valley University. Horribly predictable, but I loved them when I was younger.

American Girl has a set of dolls called the "Bitty Twins" and you can personalize them for looks, but they have a small book series that go along with the dolls. I'm looking on the website but can't find a place to buy the books individually.

Here's the link for Hello Twins, mentioned above. It really is quite good (I don't really like the cover, but I felt differently after reading it). It was just named one of the 10 Best Illustrated for 2006 by NYT.

When I searched for hello twins on amazon, some other pretty fun-looking stuff came up.

The Twins series (The Scotch Twins, The Belgian Twins, The Spartan Twins etc) by Lucy Fitch Perkins. My favourite as a child was The Cave Twins. The twins in each book are mixed-gender.

Beverly Cleary's Janet and Jimmy picture books and Mitch and Amy for when they're old enough for chapter books.

Also for slightly older readers, but The Baby Sitters Club had a couple of books where the twin sisters write autobiographies of themselves (I know one of them was called Abby). The girls are identical, but are so different in interests and personality that you wouldn't know that they're twins.
