Organize my mp3 collection.

I've searched and searched, but everyone has albums. I'm the one whose been downloading singles off p2p networks for ages. I've never owned an album/cd. Which is why this is slightly hard for me.. Now, some of them have whacky tags, and some of them have whacky filenames.

I want a simple software (I have Tag&Rename) that will let me load up 4000+ songs on it.

And rename the filenames according to tags, or rename the tags according to filenames (all or selected files only)

If there's not much info, it can go online and get tag information.
And then rename filenames accordingly.

There, simple?
Everyone on forums/threads here and there mention T&R, and I must definitely be blind, but I'm just not able to work T&R and my needs are so simple!

You could try the ClassicTagger by MusicBrainz..

http://musicbrainz.org/doc/ClassicTagger

It is for marking tracks with ID3 tags via "acoustic fingerprints" .. Also check out the next version:

PicardTagger

mp3tag - no 'fingerprinting', but it's a whiz at everything else having to do with tags (cddb, tag->filenmae, filename->tag, powerful, yet pretty simple scripting).

I fell in love with The GodFather ages ago, which does everything you're asking it to and then some (IIRC - it's been a while since I've used it.)

But you should listen to some albums. Hear music the way the artists want you to--if you put a little time into it, you'll thank yourself later.

To clarify--I don't care if you buy them or steal them, just listen to them. The one thing I fear losing in the coming evolution of the music business is the idea of an album as a related collection of songs. Don't contribute to it's demise!

Response by poster: How do I change the filename accordingly Artist - Title.mp3?

...if there are tags.
And if there are no tags, but the filename is just the way I like it.. how can I make GodFather pull up the artist title from the filename and shove it in the tags?

With mp3tag, you select Convert->Filename-to-Tag from the right-click context menu, and enter a naming pattern: if the file is named "[Madonna] - True Blue.mp3" you'd use [%artist%] - %title%.
