Quit smoking, need weight management. Can you recommend a nutritionist in San Francisco?

My wife quit smoking a few weeks ago, and is concerned about the weight she is gaining and her anxiety eating. I think she looks great, but she asked me to help her find a nutritionist that will help her manage her weight WITHOUT pills.

Basically, someone that teaches good eating habits.

Can you recommend someone in the San Francisco area?

I can't do that, but just as an FYI, she should try upping her water intake, and possibly her caffeine intake.

When I quit smoking, those two were crucial to avoiding overeating. Also, Congrats!

Best answer: Elyse Robin is a registered dietician and nutrionist who is very much about the good habits. She's based in Noe Valley. More at erobinrd.com.

Lots of good advice on quitting smoking previously.

Your wife needs to know that gaining weight after quitting smoking is in no way inevitable. I quit 17 July (after 19 years) and have lost twenty pounds since then. Regular cardio eliminated (like poof, gone) my desire to smoke and the anxiety associated with it, and freed me to eat whatever I want, whenever I want, and the anxiety associated with that.

Not the question you asked, but FWIW. Good luck to you both. Living with a newly-former smoker cannot be fun.

Response by poster: Thanks Judith. Not being familiar with US medical terms, my searches for nutritionists failed, just knowing the term 'registered dietitian' saved the day.

And Methylviolet, luckily for me, her first 3 weeks she was vacationing in Mexico. When she came back she was as mellow as evern and we have been enjoyiung some great dining :)
