To:

a) Search your own email? Yes, try your email client.
b) Search everyone else's email? Sure, ask Dept. of Homeland Security.
c) Search everyone else's email in newsgroups? Google Groups.
d) None of the above? Then please expound (you might be asking about finding email addresses, in which case WhoWhere might help.)

I think petersn1 might mean websites where you search for somebody's email address based on their name.

Response by poster: yes. Searching by name. I tried WhoWhere no search for email address. It did however, like so many sites send me to another window that offered to give me "more" info on the person for a fee. :(

Ok. I tried looking for a free address lookup site, and also came up empty. Would something like ZabaSearch (free phone number, address, etc) help?

Response by poster: zabasearch does the same thing. It seems they all want money for email info. I know it hasn't always been this way. Ugh. What is the web coming to? Thanks for helping!

I'd suggest trying to find a site with large or targeted audiences, name search and a private/aliased messaging system, such as Classmates, MySpace or school alumni sites.

The sad reality is that any regular email address that you'll find through Zaba/WhoWhere/Google-style directory searches will be just as vulnerable to the same searches as spammers -- thus, even if you find a match, the odds are decent that it's already spammed out and unused.

Maybe you should rethink your question. What is it you actually are looking for? An email search site is not an end in itself (unless you're a spammer!)

Are you looking for a particular person's email address? If so, assuming you have at least some information about the person besides their name, there are probably better ways to track them down.

There are no high-coverage general purpose email address search sites except from creative web searching with google or a searchengine of your choice. How best to find a specific address all depends on what you know about the person in question (or to put it another way, "what dmd said").

b) Search everyone else's email? Sure, ask Dept. of Homeland Security.

That would be Justice or Defense. Jeez guys, at least if you are going to be afraid, be afraid of the right people. Besides the fact that anything operated by the fed is far from free, what does DHS want with an email veiwer, to see how they can less serve you in an emergency?

Maybe its Health and Human Serrrrrvices (scary voice), boogity boo!
