How can I get the filename of an image to print with the image?

I have a bajillion image files to print. Is there a way to get the file name of the image to print above or below the image when it prints?

The file names have to be on each printout, and until now I've been handwriting them on there. That sucks.

Windows XP. I have Fireworks MX, Canon Easy Photo Print (never used it, but I have it), and Paint (lame). That's all I have to work with in terms of "image software."

Any suggestions are welcome.

Canon Easy Photo Print should do the job. Run the program, select an image, select your paper, and in the third and final step "Layout/Print" you should see a "Date" button. Click it!

Oops... You wanted filename, not date. Sorry.

You may want to check out Fine Print. It will let you attach page numbers, any headers or footers you like, booklet printing, 1-up, 2-up, 4-up, 8-up, binding gutters, and more. I've been using it for years and love it. You can use it with any application (you treat it like a printer in Windows), and can even combine multiple print jobs into a single booklet with consistent page numbers.

For something like a filename, it's very easy. If you do try it, to get the filename to print, you want to use the "Stationery" tab, and then set the header or footer. Use the "Job Name" variable, because most apps send the file name in that field. BTW, I'm not associated with whoever makes FinePrint; I'm just a happy customer.

Don't browsers like Mozilla allow you to configure what metadata gets printed on the page header and footer?

Best answer: Download IrfanView. Open an image in the directory you want to print. Press T for thumbnail mode. Select the images you want to print, then File -> Print Selected. Set Headnote to $F and select a font; Print.

Second the IrfanView. I love FinePrint, but IrfanView is also awesome, and free. If you never need to do any other fancy printing than what you described, IrfanView is a better idea than my earlier suggestion.

Just to note, Photoshop Elements does this, and there's a free thirty day trial version. But that'll be an enormous download so yeah, IrfanView is still the best suggestion so far.
