A nice dinner in Medway

A good restaurant within +/- 15 miles of Medway, MA?

Pricey is ok, romantic ever better. But, if it's just a wonderful place to eat and enjoy another's company, that would be the best.

Thanks!

Not familiar with Medway, BUT:

1) Figs in Wellesley is reasonably priced, charming (exposed brick walls, brick oven), and very tasty. Can be on the loud side, however, and there is often a wait.

2) The Naked Fish in Framingham is also quite nice, although again large and a bit loud.

3) There's a Legal Seafood in Framingham. Great clam chowder, Boston institution, etc. etc.

4) Big Fresh in Framingham is GREAT. Small, intimate (okay, so it looks like a bit of a dive from the outside; it's sandwiched between a Boston Market and a random Chinese place), cute stained glass+local artwork decorations, fresh, free-range/organic food. CHEAP. $7/plate. Absolutely delicious. Hidden treasure and all that. Highly recommend.

If you're willing to go as far as Waltham (20mi):
1) The Elephant Walk. Great Cambodian food, v. nice atmosphere. Sometimes a wait.

2) Cafe on the Commons at Moody and Main has soups, salads, sandwiches, pastry, coffee, tea, and the best carrot cake I've ever had. Not necessarily a dinner location but a very cool place to hang out on a weekend morning. Great atmosphere. Free wifi!

If you're willing to go as far as Brookline (20mi):
1) Fugakyu has the best sushi in the area. Pricy, to be sure, but also very charming. They have booths with sliding doors (I'm sure there's a real name for these) so you can have a little privacy if you'd like.

2) Khao Sarn has excellent Thai food, charming but not particularly notable atmosphere. Not too pricy, $12/plate.

3) Lucy's in Brookline is GREAT (although...sadly...seems to be closed. You might want to try to verify that.) They were awesome; low-fat, extremely tasty, well-prepared food. Highly recommend (if they're still around.)

The bad news is that you've got to be flexible. If your limit is 15 miles, you haven't got much. You can try Truffles, an upscale bistro sandwiched between Route 16 and the Stop & Shop plaza in Milford. I don't recommend it, but it's changed owners since I tried it so maybe the food is worth a visit.

The good news is that, if you're just a teensy bit more flexible, there's plenty of great food around. You can hop on 495 North to Route 9 East and you'll find Tomasso, a lovely Northern Italian restaurant in Southboro. It's about 35 minutes from Medway, and it definitely qualifies for both pricey and romantic. Plus the food's great. Highly recommended.

Take a half-hour trip in the other direction and you'll hit Norwood, whose town center has at least a half-dozen restaurants worth trying, along or just off Washington Street. I'm at Abbondanza at least once a week. I order the pizza, because I'm a Philistine and I love thin crust; but my fiancée loves the lobster ravioli made by the owner's mother, and our friends and family have tried just about everything else on the menu.

Abbondanza is next door to a pleasant little Asian cafe called Mint, which I can recommend; and both are up the street from a new-ish bistro called 712 that I haven't yet tried. Both might fit your criteria. And on Route 1, there's One Bistro inside the Four Points Sheraton — definitely fits your criteria: great food, and perfect for romance as opposed to a hurried dinner because the kitchen can be slow. (And because, y'know, it's inside a hotel.)

You're also 40 minutes from Coach Grill. It's 5 stars. Love it. 'Nuff said.

There's an Italian place in the Shaw's plaza in Medway that's OK, and there's a nice little Chinese place next to Roche Bros. in Millis — but generally speaking, if you limit yourself to Medway and Milford, you're going to hit some walls. Medfield keeps trying its luck with upscale restaurants, but they close faster than they can open. You'll find plenty of joints but not much class, and it sounds like you're looking for class. For that, you need a car — but on the bright side, you're equidistant between the North End and Federal Hill.

I live next door. If you're new to the area, welcome. Feel free to e-mail if you need help finding a dentist, or an auto mechanic, or whatever else you don't trust to the Yellow Pages.

My roommate advises that Mango (Mangos?) in Milford is good, if you like Thai food. (Never been there myself.)

When Mrs. Shallow Center and I are in the Boston 'burbs visiting her folks, we often try to make it Zebra's Bistro and Wine Bar in Medfield. Good food, excellent wine selection, fetching atmosphere.

Blue Ginger in Wellesley used to be great (I haven't been there in a couple of years).

The Sherborn Inn is pretty decent. They have a pub side and a formal side, depending on your taste and budget.

A second for Zebra's in Medfield...it also has a comfortable bar/lounge for which "bar/lounge" aren't quite the right words - there's a nice bar with some comfy sofas and occasional live music.

Oishii routinely gets voted for best sushi place around Boston. They are in Sudbury & Brookline.
I've also heard nice things about Lumiere in West Newton.
