we're to recreate a famous photo/piece of art for an assignment in my photography class, but i'm not finding what i want.

the example we were shown was a recreation of american gothic, a couple stood in the middle of a grocery store aisle holding a tray of meat, the aisles angling up created the feel of the a-frame and the refrigerator doors behind them replicated the front door of the house.

so that's the basis that we're working around, what are your favorite pieces? the more contemporary the better.

Here's the famous "Blue Angel" poster shot of Dietrich as Lola Lola (1929). And here's William Wegman's 1990 Lolita.

D'you know any Weimaraners? They seem quite pliant — and will work for kibble.

This photograph of a tricycle by William Eggleston is very famous, contemporary, and easily recreateable if you've got the architecture somewhere around...

Do they have dance classes at your school? How about a Degas?

If you could get dancers in modern dress to replicate something like this I think that would be nice.

Or you could do Dorothea Lange's migrant mother, updated to evoke Katrina/New Orleans.

Christina by Andrew Wyeth, Time by Salvador Dali, Campbell's Soup Can by Andy Warhol, and Flowers by Pablo Picasso are a few that immediately spring to mind that would be interesting to update and recreate. Also several by Magritte - think skies, hats, and apples.

Nude Descending a Staircase. Use a long exposure with a series of strobes.

Alternatively, get some friends with SUVs, shoot them from several stories up and recreate the famous Tiananmen Square photo.

Best answer: Pablo Picasso's The Dream or Hand with Bouquet would be interesting and probably not that difficult to recreate. Another idea is Cezanne's Card Players.

Not screamingly contemporary, but easily made so: Flaming June.

Just What Is It That Makes Today's Home So Different, So Appealing? would be fun to reinterpret.
