Using Dotster as a host

Does anyone use Dotster for hosting?

I know the question about domain registration has been asked many times, but I'm looking for feedback from folks who host their site there. Are they reliable? Are you happy with the value for the money? Do you find their control panel easy to use? Is their support prompt?

Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I/we don't use them for hosting, but they are one of our registrar partners. I'm not thrilled with their tools, but from the registrar side they've got some good folks working for them. But they have also royally F'd up a couple things for us, including soliciting our hosting customers for their own services. Not cool.

We use 1and1 and have been happy. We stopped using dotster during our name hunt because we heard they use the search data to register domains... though not sure if this is founded.

I've met some of the folks at dotster. They're really into search engine optimization, and they do buy domains based on search engine data if that's what you mean, dentata.

I know people who've hosted there on their free plans (not sure they offer those anymore) and they were happy with them. They used to say that that by using the free service you'd have to get emails from their advertisers, but I don't know any user who ever got one of the emails.

And please don't use 1and1. They suck, as has been documented by numerous mefites on the blue and the green.

I have a site registered there, and paid them a small amount to redirect to my web page, stored on my ISP's free space. They added advertising, which I find cheesy. But they have been fine otherwise. Last I looked, metafilter was registered there. not a real hosting answer, sorry.

I never knew.

That's it. I'm firing my business partner. Poo.

Apologies for the crappy advice.
