Help me share my iPod over my local network through iTunes' sharing function.

Is there any easy way for a PC-user to share their iPod through iTunes sharing without ripping the contents of the iPod to the local machine's disk?

I've got a Windows 2000 box at work which I'd prefer not to load with music, and an iPod that I bring in with me daily. I play my music via iTunes, but I'm unable to share the iPod through iTunes sharing to other folks at work. I understand that in OSX one can tick 'enable firewire disk' and 'disable automatic synchronization' in iTunes and have the iPod share, but the equivalent does not seem to exist in Windows. Any thoughts?

Check out Hamachi. Hamachi is a zero-configuration virtual private networking (VPN) application. Then read this article. Works like a charm.

Response by poster: This appears to be useful for sharing my home music library to my office (which, in and of itself is pretty useful) but doesn't handle the iPod sharing specifically.

You can set up what's been dubbed as the Self-Sustaining iPod.

There's quite a few other posts about having everything on your iPod, Maybe some of it will allow you to do the sharing thing too.

Oh, I found one thing. You may be able to install a DAAP server. Here's one for Windows: WinDaapd

This will set up a DAAP server, which basically makes it look like an iTunes share.

Good luck!
