"Coping With Joshua"? Photos of banalality and horror. What's the artist? [more inside]

My woman and I saw a book of work by an artist at a counterculture-type shop. One of the words in the title was, I believe, "Joshua", who was an extremely creepy nude muppet, a subject of many of the pictures. Most of the pictures in the book were pretty disturbing. Hunks of unidentifiable flesh on hotel beds, that sort of thing. Does this ring any bells?

Response by poster: Oh yes: she's quite certain the artist's first name is "Chuck".

Title and description sound like something Matt Sesow would do, though I'd be very surprised if that was right.

The artist is most likely Charlie White – here’s an NPR story about him and his series “Understanding Joshua”

Yawk! I saw that book prominently displayed at the NADIFF bookstore two blocks behind Omotesando in Harajuku. Nasty, nasty stuff. Good luck finding it...I suppose.
