Golden Girls quote

What Golden Girls is the quote "I like celery, I like tomatoes, I don't like broccoli. Why force it down my throat?" from?

On XM radio's 90s station, they play quotes from every year. One of the quotes from 1990 is the one above. Dorothy is saying it I think.

It was probably a recording President George H. W. Bush. There was a week or so when it made news that the president didn't like broccoli. He was asked about it a few times by the press. His most famous response was "I do not like broccoli. And I haven't liked it since I was a little kid and my mother made me eat it. And I'm President of the United States and I'm not going to eat any more broccoli."

As I recall, the broccoli growers association sent him a truckload of broccoli after that.

Response by poster: Nah, it wasn't him. I forgot to mention they play a short clip of the show's theme song "Thank you for being a friend" before the quote.

Best answer: It's got to be from either Part 1 or Part 2 of an episode called The President's Coming, The President's Coming! According to the plot summary, President Bush (voiced by Harry Shearer!) visits the Golden Girls. The epsiodes are from the right year too.

They play those President episodes on Lifetime periodically...if you're that obsessed, you could try and catch one.
