Microsoft's Virtual PC 2004 is now FREE - Does it work from MCE 2002?

Seeing that it's now free, can Microsoft's Virtual PC 2004 work with Windows Media Center Edition 2002 - sp2 as the host OS?

I know that the guide says it is only compatible with XP Professional and Windows 2000, but I was wondering if anyone has had success with it this way (I recall hearing that MCE was the same as XP Pro just dressed a little differently)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

P.S. Why would my new HP m7470n have come shipped with MCE 2002 and not MCE 2005?

Best answer: VPC works just fine on MCE2005, I am running it now.

and on the MCE2002 thing...if you go to my computer and pick properties and it says "Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2", you are in fact running MCE 2005.

I tried to get one of the people on the Media Center team at Microsoft to explain that to me, but I still dont get it.

I also found this which goes into exhaustive detail on MCE versions and how to tell which one you have.
