Chess website?

Can anyone recommend a decent online chess program?

I'm going travelling in a couple of months and would like to keep a game of chess going with a friend.

I'd really like to find a nicely designed site that will allow each of us to periodically log in and make a move in a saved game.

I'd prefer not to have to re-input the board positions each time (which seems to be how the majority of sites work).

I've found plenty of installable programs that allow this (via email for example), but it has to be a website as I will be logging in from many different internet cafes!

There are three listed here - I haven't tried any of them though. If you play go, the Dragon Go Server is excellent for this purpose.

Best answer: I was a member of Redhotpawn.com for a while, and I enjoyed it. It's free to play games against people, you have to pay to join some tournaments. It's the only site of it's type that I have tried, so I can't compare it to anything, but it should be able to do what you want it to do.

I've played on itsyourturn.com before (mentioned in exogenous' link) - it does exactly what you need.

For correspondence chess you might want to look at chessworld.net (I believe it's free for a small number of games.) If you want to schedule a live game try FICS.

echo the Redhotpawn recommendation. It's a nice site, with nice features, free.

Cheers

Response by poster: All great links, but redhotpawn.com wins in the style stakes. Cheers guys.

Scheming Mind is a lot of fun because they have lots of variations.

I'm on Scheming Mind too, and I think it's great (I don't even play variations).
