Best Washington, DC-area restaurant for a private group?

My husband is looking for a DC-area restaurant in which to hold a monthly meeting for a private organization. Criteria are as follows:

1. Strongly prefer it to be in Silver Spring, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, or Kensington

2. Must have a private room that holds about 40 people (bonus if it holds more)

3. The restaurant shouldn't charge a room rental fee, and meeting attendees should be able to order food and liquor off a menu and receive separate checks. The group could guarantee a minimum expenditure if the restaurant required it.

I realize this is kind of specialized, but I'm really hoping some DC MeFites might be able to help. So far the only luck we've had (and seemingly this is the case for a lot of area organizations) is with some real dive type of places. But this group is going for a more prestigious image, so a place with some name recognition (or at least not in a bad area) would be great.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

It's in Alexandria, a bit off the track from what you have in mind, but I think the Warehouse has a very nice party room, and the food is excellent.

I can't remember for sure if they have a party room (though it looks like they have two dining rooms from this site) and I certainly don't have any details, but Good Fortune in Silver Spring is very good and affordable.

Seconding the Warehouse (and adding a better link). I actually had my future in-laws meet my dad there and it went off without a hitch. It's a nice place with a good menu.

Portner's in Old Town also has a good party room and a great reputation.

Closer to your original request, the Clyde's in Chevy Chase is just down Wisconsin Ave. from Bethesda and you don't get anymore old school Washington, DC than the Clyde's Group restaurants.

Have you looked at the Washingtonian restaurant listings/reviews?

Posting after myself to add one more: Positano Restaurant in Bethesda has private rooms and I've heard great things about it.

I'm pretty sure Maggiano's in Friendship Heights has private party rooms upstairs, and the food is fantastic.
