So I've just deleted a bunch of files which were held on an Ubuntu server, from my XP laptop, via a Samba share. Is there any way to retrieve them?

I don't know specifically what tools to use here but you should unmount the volume immediately. Your chances of recovering anything go down dramatically as you continue to create or delete files on the volume.

Response by poster: Okay, I haven't used the volume. Unmounting now...

It's gonna depend a lot on what format the disc used. All distro's of Ubuntu have a package called "recover" in the Universe repository which will help undelete files from an ext2 partition, for instance.
