What was that comic series? Brightly coloured dragonball Z homage.

A couple of years ago I read two volumes of a comic that was a very clear expy of Dragonball Z. An alien world where invincible martial artists glow and shoot beams. Very vivid use of colour, almost James Stokoe-like, but with oranges, greens and purples everywhere.

I know there's a lot of comics influenced by Dragonball, but this was specifically and unambiguously a direct (affectionate) riff on Dragonball Z. Zero subtlety. It was about what happens next, after our heroes have saved the world.

The story opens with NotGoku retired with his family after saving the world. But NotVegeta shows up and takes him on a quest to something something, visiting old allies, fighting off old enemies and trying to resolve their lingering rivalry. Not Goku was also secretly dying of the aftereffects of the big world saving battle.

Pretty sure it was American in origin. The art style was manga-influenced but not directly aping Toriyama, very modern-feeling. I thought maybe it was published by Dark Horse but i couldn't find it on their site so it might have been something more indie. It might (might!) have been called Power Levels.

It felt like the third volume would conclude the series and I was wondering whether it was out yet, but I can't find it now. And you can imagine how helpful it is to google "dragonball comic" or "power level comic"

Best answer: maybe No One Left to Fight?

When you say "a couple of years ago," do you mean that in it was like 2022/2023 or pre-pandemic "a couple of years ago"?

I ask because I know this comic exists and I also asked someone who owned a comic shop pre-pandemic (and somewhat post-pandemic) who agrees it exists. We, unfortunately, can't think of the title. But it was more pre-2020 for what we're thinking of.

I am looking, though. I looked through Oni and Top Shelf and didn't see a candidate but I didn't look through Boom or IDW (Boom may be more likely).

Response by poster: Solved. No One Leftt To Fight was it.

Just for the record, I meant literally 2ish years ago. I thought it was a newish release but I guess it takes time to get the trades out.

No sign of a 3rd volume to finish the series though. Makes me feel guilty for borrowing instead of buying.

Thanks all.
