Which Programmable, Mappable LED light strings?

I love the idea of programming a peace sign or other fun stuff on light strings on a holiday tree or light display. Anybody know the sweet spot for price/ decent quality? Programmable to music is a nice feature if it doesn't drive too much expense.
From what I've seen making the lights 3-d on a tree is an incredibly difficult thing to solve. Think about how you hang the lights, it has to be the same each time to get the same pattern!
Flashing the whole tree to music is super easy but it's different for mapping. I saw a youtuber do it and it took them FOREVER!
Sorry, I could be corrected, but I don't think there's a sweet spot here for creating designs/patterns on a tree.

Response by poster: Mathowie had a post several years ago that I haven't found again; the software locates each bulb and does the mapping.

Adafruit has Neopixels and a lot of guides on how to use them, maybe?
