what's the name of that song, couple years back, cello, acoustic guitars, male and female duet, b&w video with the camera slowly spinning from the inside of a circle of singers/musicians and a portion of the lyrics go something like "hurricane come knock me down" (or maybe it was 'tornado'?) is it just me or is it impossible to search for song lyrics on the intarwebs!
Response by poster: hot damn, that's the penicilin for my burning curiousity! thanks.
now while i go pull an mp3 off of itunes, does anyone know of similar-sounding things out there?

Ah good old Damo, I believe Lisa Hannigan (Damien Rice's singing partner on the excellent album 'O') has an album coming out soon. Vyvienne Long (The cellist) did a great set on RTE's 'other voices' and probably has some other material available.
Gemma Hayes is a personal favourite of mine too. Will think of a few more in a wee while!

All of Damien Rice's music is amazing, he's definitely up there on my favorite artists. José González also sounds similar. Other suggestions: Sufjan Stevens, Elliott Smith, Nick Drake, Jeff Buckley, Ryan Adams, and that usual cast.

Other stuff ya might like are Isobel Campbell , who has a collaboration with Mark Lanegan out, Julie Feeney, David Kitt (or Kittser as we like to call him), particularly his stuff from 'The Big Romance' and of course The Frames

Colleen is a bit more esoteric than Damien Rice, but her sound is definately evocative of Volcano. There are samples on the link. I saw her at Joe's Pub on the Hawk + a Hacksaw tour, and was blown away.

You might want to try Pandora for (electronically generated) recommendations of similar music to Damien Rice.
