Mouse for the left-handed fat-fingered?

I need to find a mouse to suit someone with large, but not long, fingers. Who's left handed.

He currently uses an entry-level Dell (re-branded Logitech) 3-button wheelmouse and complains that he has to squash his fingers together to use the mouse.

I lent him my big Logitech 7 or 8 button thing, which he liked the size of, but the mouse is very much right-handed. Logitech did do a left-handed version of one of their larger mice, but it's not available to me anymore. All of logitech's symmetrical mice are too small.

He's also tried an Apple Mighty Mouse, in the hopes that the wide surface would work, but the way the right mouse button works with the touch-sensitive surface just doesn't work for him. (I'm trying it at the moment. It seems a long way to go to avoid having left and right buttons.)

I'd love to be able to offer him a Boomslang (they're amazingly wide), but they aren't optical and haven't been available for ages. He's trying my Razer Diamondback at the moment, but I don't know how that will go.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Apparently Logitech makes a left-handed model 610. That might be good.

Ah, found the product page for that mouse.

Response by poster: That left-handed 610 is unfortunately not available in Australia. At least, my company's suppliers can't help.

I'm aware of non-mouse products, but the solution in this case really needs to be a mouse, at least until our ergonomics equipment pool gets official funding.

I second the idea of a trackball. I'm ambidextrous and use this one.

I'd second the left-handed 610.

You'll end up paying premium for any mouse this specific, so you might as well buy it somewhere that ships internationally (try ebay).

Response by poster: I can't buy on eBay for the company. The left-handed 610 looks great, but I can't get it. A trackball may offer a solution, but it will be disruptive as he gets used to it and if it doesn't solve the problem I'll have to explain the expense to management.

So, I repeat. Left-handed Logitech mice and non-mice solutions are not available. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

What functions does he need, exactly? I'm sitting here using an old two button no-name mouse set to left-handed in Windows Control Panel. The buttons are pretty big -- to the point where, if it had a scroll wheel, I don't think it would be a major interruption.

(For what it's worth -- which isn't much -- I am a fan of the Logitech Marble Mouse as well.)
