Where has all the music gone?

Does anyone have the skinny on what's going on with allofmp3.com? I haven't been able to order anything or add funds for a week now and every day seems to produce a different error message.

The shit may have finally hit the fan -- in terms of the RIAA and such.

Here's the main link at Reuters.

blm - That goes to a story about Russia, not allofmp3.com.

Apologies - I failed to read the Digg article first. :-P Just FYI that the 2nd article doesn't reference the RIAA or Allofmp3, just the WTO issue.

I don't think that article explains problems with AllOfMP3 at all, just some possible implications for it down the track. If Putin makes a speech about what Russia maybe ought to do about copyright and AllOfMP3 goes down, that's just a coincidence.

Note that I said "may" in my original post, Ambrose :)

The Czech version of the site is up.

I get "closed for maintenance" there too kirkaracha.

I've been getting 'The ordering is not available" for a few days.

Hmm... I'm at a restaurant with content filters so I don't know if MP3Search.ru is working or not. Same concept and similar prices but not as pretty. If that is down as well, then it could be more than coincidence. Then again, MP3search.ru would take several day naps in the past.

I've got their AllTunes installed. I can use that to browse, etc. but not order. It even installed an update. I'd had a song pending from (probably 4 or 5) days ago and it finished downloading.

About two years ago i recall they had a couple weeks worth of problems. I'd say give it time.

But yes, MP3Search.ru is up.

Dumb scared question from a guy hestiant to hand over his cc# to a Russian firm. How do you all pay these russian sites? One time CC?
posted by drewbage1847 at 4:24 PM on May 13, 2006

drew,

you are actually only giving your CC# to the Russian credit card processor (Xrost, I think), not to Allofmp3.com. From what I understand, they are a trustworthy organization, and it is no more risky that handing your CC to a waiter, who then takes it to the back of the restaurant to do as he likes.

And it's not working for me either. Glad I've only got $2 balance left.

The Russian gov't has been after allofmp3.com for a while now. Pretty sure the stuff is indeed hitting the fan. Bummer I didn't use all my balance.

Oh, and what Rock Steady said about CCs. I'd argue giving it to the waiter is (potentially, anyway) significantly less secure than giving it to a company who has a vested interest in seeing that your # is secure.

They've got my CC# and my love, and haven't done me wrong so far.

While we are all waiting for allofmp3 to return, is MP3Search.ru a good place to go for music?
posted by Lexbubba at 9:06 AM on May 14, 2006

Allofmp3 accepts Paypal, which reduces your risk of fraud tremendously.

They've had bad spots before. Around Christmas they were a hopeless mess for a good couple of weeks.

Digg discussion.

Which links to this, which is ominous.

TechCrunch mentions it too.

There was this link too in one of the TechCrunch comments. It sounds like the fat lady has sung...

It's back! Maybe they just had there servers down for maintenance.

The site does seem quite a bit faster. But maybe that's because everyone left.

Still not working for me.
posted by fixedgear at 3:38 PM on May 16, 2006

Today's message gives me hope:

Payments are temporarily not accepted.
The site is undergoing some technical restructuring.
We work hard to resume the service. We expect to put back all the functions shortly.
Please, accept our appologies for this ongoing disruption.

I don't know if anyone is still monitoring this thread, but Allofmp3 is definitely back. There are still short periodic outages for me, but other than that things are great.

It's back, but still a little spotty.

Is anyone still here? Because now allofmp3 is back, but the site I used to buy credits has been giving me a "come back tomorrow" message for days and days. Anyone else? I'm leery of using my credit card directly, though come to think of it, I've never heard of anyone getting ripped off.
