Xbox 360 controller help

I can't get my new XBOX360 to work, should I return it? I have a premium system with the wireless controller and I can't get it to stay connected. I hold down the thing in the middle until the upper left quadrent stays green, and there's also a green upper left quadrent on the XBOX360. When I let go of the button (after I have the solid green) it goes dark again and I get a thing saying "Please Reconnect XBOX360"

I've replaced the batteries, if I hold it down it appears to work for at least 5 seconds but will then flash off even while holding the middle button down. If I release it after I get solid green it goes blank immediately. I so don't want to box everything back up.

look for the sync button thats on both the 360 and the wireless pad.

You need to link up the 360 and the controller. There should be a button on the 360 itself that will cause the Wheel o' Light to start swirling. That means the box is looking for a controller that's looking for a box. While that circle is lit, fire up your controller's sync button. The two will start blinking in tandem, and huzzah, you're all set!

Response by poster: Right but the problem is as soon as I let up on the button the controller it stops being green, do I have to hold the button down WHILE I press connect?

Response by poster: Err let me again try to explain what I'm doing and what's happening:

1. Turn XBOX360 on
2. Press the sync on the XBOX360, green lights swirl
3. Hold the button the controller, lights swirl
4. Release the button the controller to press the sync on the controller, as soon as I release the ring of light on the controller green lights go off
4B If instead of letting go of the ring of light I hold it down AND press the sync on the controller I get a solid green in position 1
5 If I release after getting solid green both ring of lights go blank

There's a seperate sync button on the controller, are you hitting that or are you hitting the big ole X one?

Ah, you need to have the controller on first. So according to here, the steps are:

1) Turn on 360 (ring of light) and controller (Start or Guide button).
2) Press the Connect button on the 360.
3) Press the Connect button that's at the top of the controller, next to the slot for a charging cord.
4) Everything spins and flashes, and syncs up.

I have the same problem! I've even gotten my wireless controller to connect, but it will disconnect 10 seconds ~ 5 minutes later. It seems like the controller just goes dead. Three sets of batteries and no difference. Is this similar to what you're experiencing?

It took me a sec to figure out how to connect the controller, but with both the system and the controller, on just hit the little white sync button and you should be fine.

The wireless controller goes to sleep after 5-10 mintues, but just hitting the power button (on the controller) brings it back on. Its slightly annoying, but its better than buying the recharge kit.

My 360 purchased Sunday (a premium) sometimes crashes on burnout revenge, but wiping the disc *seems* to have fixed it so far, and except for occasional glitches GRAW works fine.

dentata, are you able to use the controller in that time to control stuff on screen?

The connect buttons are pretty sneaky. It took me a bit to figure it all out the first time as well.

And, seeing how we're talking 360... If anyone wants to play a game or two (I hear Uno is on Live! now), look me up!

Perhaps you could actually call customer service?

Best answer: Sorry should have got back sooner but got caught up into playing.

I called the store where I bought it, he said its happened several times before. They replaced the controller and voila, works like it is suppose to.

So if anyone else is getting the same problem is a faulty controller.
