I love tofu skin rolls and would like to make them at home. I do not want to deep or mid fry them, however. Can I make them in an air fryer?

I am a huge fan of these and get them any chance I can get at dim sum places. I would like to make them at home but I am terrible at frying with any more oil than to lightly cover the bottom of a pan for a sauté, and the stove where I am renting is rather unreliable. All recipes I see require deep or mid frying (mid= fry pan half filled with oil).

Can I use an air fryer to complete the frying part? If so, how might I do this? Any and all hacks for making these at home are appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Yes, an air fryer will work -- it'll be a bit different, in the way all "air fried" things are a bit different than truly fried, but IMO it works out well enough (one recipe [when that recipe says to check halfway, I'd also flip them over]).

If you don't have a brush to apply a little oil before cooking, you can also just (carefully) use your hands to smear a thin layer on all over. I've tried using an oil sprayer, and I always end up just using my hands anyway.

Have you ever tried frying in something other than a pan on the stove? If your reason for avoiding frying is skill based and not related to health concerns, you might consider getting a fry baby or a fry daddy (!) - er, just a brand name for an electric fryer, but funnierr than just saying electric fryer : P - and giving frying another go. Unfortunately, nothing besides deep frying tastes anything like deep frying. A lot of people struggle with deep frying because they aren't using enough oil or letting it fully reach temperature .. the advantage of a deep saucepan that you dedicate to frying, or electric fryer, is you can stain and reuse the oil, leave it in for a few weeks of getting , etc. And with an electric fryer temperature is really well maintained in a way that seems reassuring to some . . Hope it helps !
