I think that's going to be pretty subjective in terms of comparison and perception of similarity, but to me "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers has a similar energy.

For the 60s motown-y bounce performed in the late 1970s/early 1980s, the phil collins version of ‘You can’t hurry love” is pretty damn close, or ”town called malice” by the Jam.

I know they're also from the same time period, but I find that Driving My Life Away by Eddie Rabbit and I Love a Rainy Night by Eddie Money have a similar vibe. Might have just been the hair.

The B-Side for You Make My Dreams is the pretty much unknown Gotta Lotta Nerve (Perfect, Perfect). It's not as good, more angular, less soul, less peppy but it's got something. (Have you listened to the rest of Voices, the album You Make My Dreams is from? Is has Your Kiss is On My List.)

George Harrison's "Got My Mind Set on You" fits the bill maybe!

Maybe also Our Lips Are Sealed by the Go-Gos, or a variety of Cars songs, maybe Good Times Roll.

Response by poster: Thanks for these so far.

The song is definitely bouncy, but it is an odd kind of bounce.
(You may be able to tell I lack the relevant vocabulary for this question!)

Anyway, please keep them coming.

Wikipedia's Blue-Eyed Soul page may have some apt suggestions.

There's a band out of Sweden called State Cows, marketed as a Swedish yacht rock band, but I'd put a lot of their music more in the 1980s sitcom theme song category. When You Smile has that same bouncy feel as You Make My Dreams Come True.

Huey Lewis and the News, The Power of Love (and maybe others by them)

It's not the same lurchy feel, but something about the tone of the opening hits reminds me a lot of Back Pocket by Vulfpeck.
