Identify the Republican Senator Quote

Is there a Republican ex-Senator named Edwards? He was quoted at the end of yesterday's CSPAN Radio's weekend edition Sunday about Porter Goss affair.
His quote was something along the lines of "No No No No, Goss has absolutely nothing to do with this. It's like birds chirping at a nest. They see one scandal and link it to another one"

Are you sure it was a senator? There's at least one congressman/former congressman Edwards from the Republican party.
