Not earrings, surely, but then what?

My neighbor received these for Christmas from her German cousin. We cannot figure out what they are. The cousin also sent a pair to her 80 year old male relative. What are they?

They are the size of rather large, dangly earrings (finger for scale) and they have a kind of carabiner style clasp but the carabiner bit is so stiff you can barely move it and the star seems way too thick for an ear piercing.

A handbag or wallet charm? (ie, you clip it to a bag's strap or other hardware)

Seconding just a keychain or charm for personal decor. There's a growing subculture right now of beverage goblins who even hang charms off their Stanley cups, so you'd be right on trend if you clip it onto your water bottle.

Keychains, for sure. With the beads added by hand.

Best answer: Star-shaped carabiner keychain, with guardian angel charms. (Attaches to handbags, backpacks, belts, belt loops; corrals keys, bottles, reusable grocery sacks, lanyards, poop-bag dispensers when walking the dog...)
