What was this @$@#$ feminist SF book?

Published within the past seven or eight years, a feminist science fiction novel whose plot I only vaguely recall, may be set in Scotland?

Note that it is NOT The Incomer by Margaret Elphinstone, an interesting Women's Press novel of the eighties, or The Ingathering, the collection of short stories by Zenna Henderson.

The title is something like The Incomer or the Ingathering, though. Outgoer? Incomers? I remember getting the titles confused.

There is a young woman who has telepathic contact with...a villain? An alien? There's some WWI angle, I seem to recall. She is in a small town or village and the telepathic or possibly time-traveling person doesn't seem sinister at first? It is set somewhere in the UK or Ireland, not in the US, Canada, etc.

I feel like this was from Aqueduct Press, but it doesn't seem to be in their catalogue. I started reading it back before the pandemic and really enjoyed the prose and setting but can't recall anything else about it - the pandemic interrupted my read of it and chased it out of my head.

This was your more muted, literary type science fiction, not your romantasy, swashbuckling or YA type book. It's a relatively serious book.

Best answer: Could it be Cwen?

Best answer: I’m wondering if it could be The Arrival of Missives by Aliya Whiteley? Small UK village, just after WW1, published by Unsung Stories.

Response by poster: Oh brilliant! It is The Arrival of Missives!!!!

I suppose my brain went "missives...arrive. So do incomers." and connected the two. Fabulous, I cannot wait to finish it.

I had also wanted to read but then forgotten about Cwen - so the reminder is much appreciated.
