NYC bagel delivery

For Christmas I'd like to gift NYC bagels to someone who lives in Manhattan but doesn't venture very far outside of her neighborhood (which is somewhere between Kips Bay and Murray Hill, according to Google Maps). Discovering a place within walking distance would be awesome, but mostly I want to find a solid bagel shop that does *local, fresh* delivery rather than packaging frozen bagels for shipping, if that's possible?

Best answer: 1000% possible. Bagel shops in NYC will almost assuredly only deliver fresh bagels. It's just a local delivery, after all. I suspect few are even equipped to ship anything frozen. I'd check out what's available on Goldbelly, or just look for decently reviewed places in your friend's neighborhood. You may want to include some cream cheese for bonus points!

Best answer: Zabar's and Katz's both do solid delivery.

Best answer: For walking distance, there's a Pick-A-Bagel on 23rd street in Kips Bay (really the very south end of it, to be fair), they're pretty solid.

Best answer: In that location you should be able to order delivery from Ess-a-Bagel.

Best answer: For holiday gifting and delivery, most of these bagel shops go through GoldBelly. It's impossible for them to do local delivery for everyone same day on Christmas so better to order in advance. I live in NYC and have done Ess-a-Bagel, Russ & Daughters and Barney Greengrass all through Goldbelly. Unless you are a secret billionaire that can offer them a thousand dollar tip to do it which they would probably would take you up on and probably has been done before.

Best answer: Oh, and from what I heard - the bagels arrived fresh in NYC, not frozen. It's just that you are ordering in advance to get ahead of the queue. The thousand dollar tip is to order same day with delivery which would be hard to do in NYC.

You want the Essa Bagel on 1st avenue near Stuy Town. The one in the 50s will NOT deliver to Kip’s Bay.

Bev and David are great, tell them one of the Thursday knitters sent you.
