Pocketbook Reader App runs very slowly on ipad and phone?

Why does my Pocketbook Reader App now boot so very slowly on my ipad?
I've enjoyed using this app for about 18 months, but lately it boots extremely slowly and is balky to maneuver. Especially for pdf files, recipe collections and colored illustrations, I prefer it over my Kindle. I have maybe 80 books on the app now. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I've scoured Google and cannot find any good answers. I am hesitant to re-install the app, as I think maybe my current books, many of which I haven't read yet, would be lost?
