Is there a 401k breakdown?

Is there any way to obtain a report that shows a breakdown of how much I’ve contributed over the 12 years, how much my employers contributed, and how much my investments generated in returns?

I’ve been working for 12 years and have had 3 jobs during that period. Whenever I left a job for another, I rolled over my 401k into the new company’s 401k. Currently with fidelity.

I’m guessing that data gets flattened whenever I roll a 401k over, but maybe there’s a trick I haven’t thought of?

Best answer: I work in Pension/401(k) admin and based on what I've seen with data conversions when you do that rollover it's as one amount in on the new recordkeeper's system. So they don't have any of that information. Your best bet would be to look for statements from your previous recordkeeper(s) to get all the ins and outs but I suspect you would need to call them as usually online access gets shut off once someone is out of the plan.

Best answer: Your old tax returns would have deductible contributions listed separately on your W2 reporting forms.

You can possibly even get this info from your tax transcripts from the IRS.
