give me your most fucked up little guys

Please recommend me more artists to follow who draw stuff that might best be described as scrungly. Some examples: Kyle Beaudette, RubyEtc, pantspants, and this children's book about slugs I just heard of for the first time this weekend.

MY first thought was Ted McKeever, though he may be darker than you're looking for.

Response by poster: I had a LOT of William Steig and Lane Smith books as a kid, so I guess it's nice to know where my fondness for these raggedy ass critters comes from

Scary Go Round and the overall Tackleford universe, created by John Allison, is simply teeming with weird little guys.

Greer Stothers. who owns the internet famous cat Pangur, sells prints on their website. I like the toad print, and would describe some aspects of their style as scrungly. Check out their tumblr too, pangur-and-grim.

You'd probably like Ali Brosch actually too (aka hyperbole and a half).

These are Swedish, but you might like looking at the pictures, google lens might work otherwise?

I knew that was going to be the slug book! In case anyone's wondering: Slugs, by David Greenberg, illustrated by Victoria Chess.

I always misremember it as being by Babette Cole, and I think Quentin Blake might also be in your wheelhouse. Maybe also Shirley Hughes, or Chris Riddell (Twitter; Instagram)?

Moving away from books, I think you would also like @itsnotaboutwork, who can be found on Twitter and on Instagram.

Isabel Greenberg

Can very much vouch for the excellence of her graphic novels "The Encyclopedia of Early Earth" and "The One Hundred Nights of Hero".

Haus of Decline and Lord Birthday both have a wonderful combo of scrungly art + absurdist humour.
