Does Link need to look at the petroglyphs in a particular order?

I'm playing Tears of the Kingdom and trying to avoid spoilers, so please be kind. So far I've visited several petroglyphs, but only two had exciting cutscenes happen at them (actually the cutscenes are kinda dull but you know what I mean). They now show up on my map as #1 and #2. Is it essential that I go to them all in a particular order, and if so how do I know what the order is?

I've done the big four regional quests, if that makes a difference.

Also: right now I'm getting a lot of pressure to go back to the castle and find Zelda; is that going to be a big final boss fight or is it part of moving the plot along? I mean, all those characters are just standing and staring at the castle and saying "boy, I sure hope someone goes to the castle," but I don't want to go back to the castle, I want to go find more cool outfits.

Best answer: I did the geoglyphs completely out of order. I think it helps the story to be a linear, cohesive whole if you do the geoglyphs in order, but it's not actually necessary, and I have no idea how you'd even figure out what the "correct" order is without actually viewing the cut scenes first. I just visited the geoglyphs if I happened to see them while exploring.

Going back to the castle at this point is part of moving the plot along. There will be a boss fight, but not the final boss fight.

Best answer: As far as I know (also avoiding spoilers and based on slooow gameplay alone), you don't need to visit the geoglyphs in any particular order. But you do need to find the little pool which will trigger the memories for it to register. Impa says something similar to "explore the geoglyphs and see if you can find more dragon tears." I believe you can find them in any order like the memories in BotW, if you played that one. Not sure about the castle quest yet! I don't believe the two quests are linked, and you can do them independently.

Best answer: Any order is fine. I did a fairly random order and there were a couple things where I thought, oh, that might have been more impactful if I hadn't already surmised as much from the other cutscene I already saw, but it was fine.

You're fine to go hunt more outfits but also fine to go to the castle. Doing do won't trigger the endgame. It will trigger some new plot but nothing you're required to act on immediately, so you could also go to the castle, do castle things, and then go right back to outfit hunting.

I stopped about where you are and had fun doing side quests for a few days until I felt like advancing the plot, and it was absolutely fine.

No.

Response by poster: Thank you, this is helpful! So if I poke around any old petroglyph enough I'll find the little pool? I wandered around two I found and couldn't find the pools, so I thought maybe they weren't there unless I did them in order.

Best answer: I kind of wish that the tears of the dragon memories would play sequentially no matter which order you find the geoglyphs in because getting some of the later ones does take away from the earlier ones. But no, you can get them in any order. Every geoglyph will have a pool in it.

And yeah going to Hyrule Castle won't be the big boss fight but there will be a big fight there. As with all battles though if it is too tough you can always go and do something else for a while and get better weapons or cook lots of food.

Best answer: There is a place in the world I think shows the chronological order by the arrangement within that room. You'll go to this place if you follow Impa's directions after watching the intended first Tear cutscene. Check the purah pad if you've forgotten what she said.

Best answer: Yep you'll find a little pool in every glyph. It really helps to get a view from above, like a nearby cliff or going back up in a balloon or other device. But I didn't do that for all of them, for some I just wandered across the surface of the glyphs in a vaguely systematic-ish manner until i found the pool. They'll usually (always?) be in one of the smaller shapes within the glyph.

Best answer: You'll also find... something else... in every Geoglyph. Not plot/story important, nor critical to finishing the game, but a nice little bonus.

Best answer: The little pond is in a tear-shape in a central/focal part of the geoglyph. It needs to be on a flat-ish surface for the animation to work, so that helps with the geoglyphs on the cliffs (I'm a poet!). You may also find them more easily in a tear-shape that is filled-in (for the pond) rather than just outlined.
