Detroit/Grosse Point plant nursery recommendations

My wife has been tasked with getting a "nice" plant for a coworker in the Detroit area. This is where you come in.

She'd like to get a vining perennial or some sort of other "special" houseplant. She has asked other coworkers for ideas but people have just suggested grocery stores, and she'd like to get something a little fancier than that. Do you know of any plant nurseries in or close to downtown Detroit or Grosse Point that might have something that fits the bill?

If there's an Ikea, they usually have ZZ plants, which are said to make excellent houseplants.

Might find out whether the person has any pets, and make sure the chosen plant is not toxic to them.

Best answer: I was going to suggest Plymouth Nursery (in Plymouth) if you don't find anything closer, but it looks like they're now English Gardens with locations in Plymouth, Clinton Township, Dearborn Heights, Eastpointe, Royal Oak, and West Bloomfield. I haven't been there since they changed ownership, but if one of those locations is near you, that would be worth checking out.

Best answer: English Gardens has always been a good choice, and will have the largest selection if you're shopping locally - Clinton Township is where mom used to go from GP. Charvat on Mack in GP Farms is where I've gotten orchids, amaryllis, and cut flowers delivered for mom most often (I also see cute succulents on their website). If local you can also stop in to look!

Best answer: I worked at English Gardens over 20 years ago and that experience is a root (ha!) of my love of plants.

I was going to suggest a flower vendor at Eastern Market.
